Skid Steers Explained

When it comes to any type of construction project, the job requires specific tools and equipment to get done properly. If you do not have the proper equipment, the job becomes a lot more difficult to complete, if not impossible. Heavy equipment is often used around construction sites for various applications such as digging, trenching, and moving materials. One of the most common pieces of equipment you will find is a skid steer. Just like your handheld tools, skid steers come in different types. Each type is characterized by its weight and hydraulic power. Below you will find the different types of skid steers on the market and a brief description of each:

• Small Frame: These skid steers are the smallest options available. They can lift between 1,500 and 1,750 pounds and have about 50 hydraulic power. Small-frame options can usually use attachments such as augers, backhoes, small trenchers, and dozer blades.

• Medium Frame: Medium frame skid steers can lift anywhere from 1,750 to 2,200 pounds. They have about 50 to 70 hydraulic power. Some attachments that they can support include mini excavators, pallet forks, brooms, and trenchers.

• Large Frame: These skid steers are the largest and most capable machines. They have a minimum lift rating of 2,200 pounds and have about 70 hydraulic power. They can support any type of skid steer attachment.
